Ghanaian striker Raphael Dwamena looked fine in his first picture since collapsing on the pitch on Wednesday.

Dwamena collapsed on the field during an Austrian Cup match between his team Blau-Weiß Linz and Hartberg.

The striker, 26, was rushed to the hospital after failing to the ground in the first half.

“His defibrillator struck and the doctors were able to stabilize him quickly,” Linz manager Stefan Reiter explained to APA.

The good news is “Raphael’s condition is stable.” The rescue chain had “worked outstandingly”. “It didn’t take a second for the paramedics to get to him.”

The match was suspended.

Writing on Instagram alongside a picture of Dwamena smiling, the Austrian club wrote: “This morning our sports director, Tino Wawra, was with Raphael and was able to send us the following update:

“Raphael is going so far; I could see it for myself at him in the hospital today and he can also laugh again. The length of the situation is not easy and of course, has now also become aware of it again and can realistically assess the future.

The doctors ‘statement was that he was never in acute danger to life due to his defibrillator. His “defi” has regulatory intervention a total four times. Raphael has some examinations today, but may either today or back home tomorrow in the morning – there is no danger if he avoids exercise. We will discuss the next days together with the doctors.”

Dwamena has been struggling with a heart problem and returned to action recently after one year on the sidelines.

He made his season debut on October 3 when Blau-Weiß Linz beat FC Wacker 1-0. He assisted the only goal of the match.

Dwamena is a full Ghana international, scoring twice on his debut in an Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Ethiopia in 2017.
