After several years of waiting, work has finally commenced and seeing a lot of progress on the Accra Hearts of Oak Pobiman Academy Complex, which will see the Ghana Premier League outfit boast of ultra-modern infrastructure deserving of the status of the team.
Work on the complex project is moving smoothly and is expected to be completed within the next 10months.
The club on June 22, 2020 signed an agreement with a local construction firm to start the early works on the project.
The ultra-modern training complex, when completed, will have staff residence, senior housing unit, a gym, training centers (Pitches), laundry, swimming pool, lockers, toilet facilities, kitchen and dining hall.
After touring the Pobiman site to inspect ongoing works on the Academy Project, Board Member Frank Nelson believes it is time the Rainbow family celebrate the success of the club.
“We thought it is impossible so this is a big project for us here in Accra. It means a lot for us because we want to show that we can build something but just to show that we mean football. Accra Hearts of Oak are embarking on a big project and we are going to do a modern project that people will appreciate so for us it is bragging right for Hearts of Oak,” he said.
Alhaji Akambi has been with the club all his life, from supporters chairman to a board member and says the Pobiman Project is going to be real for the club to unearth talent and make the supporters believe the board again.
“As this job is going on, we are planning everything and the fittings that will be coming in. By early 2021, everybody is going to see Pobiman, Accra Hearts of Oak Academy is going to be real and it is going to be one of the best on the continent. Not just the continent we need to produce the best players in the world.”
Work is moving steadily at the site and the Project Manager, Togbe Drake Tsigbe IV, said Ghana football will experience a new ultra-modern facility never seen in the country.
“We are looking at a multipurpose facility which I can confidently say it will not be limited to Hearts of Oak. It is going to be a multipurpose facility that will be open to the public and the country. We are also looking at foreigners outside the country coming to benefit from what we are doing today,” he said.
The second phase of the project will be carried out by a Turkish construction company.
