Our investment in women’s football is yielding fruits- Kurt Okraku

Following a successful hosting of the Women’s Football Festival, Ghana Football Association president Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku has reiterated the progress in women’s football in the last 5 years.

The festival was attended by a vast number of people ranging from family, friends, football executives as well as football loving fans in Ghana. Kurt Okraku spoke with 3Sports exclusively after the end of the football season.

The Women’s football festival is a special occasion set to crown winners of the Women’s Premier League and the Women’s FA Cup. This year, Police Ladies battled it out with Ampem Darkoa in the finals of the Women’s Premier League while Faith Ladies slugged it out with Jonina Ladies in the Women’s FA Cup.

The day ended with Police and Faith lifting the WPL and FA Cup respectively. The matches were streamed across various media outlets including Radio, Television and social media. This is a miles away from the coverage of women’s football a decade ago.

The women’s football festival was nothing short of a party atmosphere as the heavy downpour did nothing to bring the heated atmosphere down either on or off the pitch. According to the GFA President who also doubles as the CAF 2nd Vice President, he was very much looking forward to the festival.

“If you look at the level of competition and the enthusiasm showed by the clubs and people, who defied the heavy rains to stay and enjoy the female sports is something that excites me and tells all of us how far the game has come. I that the investment that we have made in the female sports over the last 5 years is beginning to yield fruits.”

The GFA also on the day handed over 2 buses to Hasaacas Ladies and Ampem Darkoa for emerging Champions of the 2023-2024 Women’s Premier League in their respective zones.
