Paris 2024: Harry Stacey disappointed with seventh place finish in 100m freestyle

Ghana’s Harry Stacey has expressed disappointment in his performance after finishing seventh in the Men’s 100m Freestyle at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Competing in Heat 4, Stacey clocked a time of 51.12 seconds, which placed him second from the bottom and did not secure a spot in the semi-finals.

Stacey’s time was below his personal best of 50.57 seconds, achieved at the Africa Aquatics Swimming Championship.

Reflecting on his race, he said, “It was not my best. Normally, I am first to 50m or second and also first to the turn, but this time, I was around fourth, so my first 50m was not my best.”

Despite his dissatisfaction, Stacey remains optimistic about his future. “I am not too mad at the performance, but it was not my best for sure. But building blocks to the future,” he added.

Stacey’s race was Ghana’s first appearance at the Paris Games. The country’s next events include Joselle Mensah’s swimming competition on August 3, and Rose Yeboah’s preliminary round in the high jump.

Ghana secured a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics thanks to Samuel Takyi’s boxing achievements. While the nation did not qualify for boxing this year, hopes are pinned on the remaining athletes, with particular expectations for the 4x100m relay men’s team.
