African Games: Ghana’s Swimming Team withdraws from 4×100 relay final

Ghana’s Swimming Team has withdrawn from the 4×100 relay final in the 2023 African Games leaving fans puzzled.

The team, comprised of Abeiku Jackson, Kow Jackson, Harry Stacey, and Niklas Yeboah, made a unanimous decision to pull out for undisclosed reasons, crushing hopes for another medal opportunity in the swimming competition.

Despite finishing fourth in the heat with a time of 4:04.98, the team stood a chance of competing in the final race, trailing behind Egypt, South Africa, and Algeria.

This unexpected development raises questions about the circumstances surrounding the decision, as no official statement has been released regarding the withdrawal.

Abeiku Jackson, the team’s captain has been a standout performer, already clinching two medals for Ghana in swimming – a silver in the 50m Butterfly and a bronze in the 100m Butterfly.

In the women’s 50m freestyle final, Ghanaian swimmers Joselle Mensah and Unilez Takyi narrowly missed out on medals. Joselle finished in 4th place, while Unilez secured the 7th position.

The event was won by Farida Osman, who set a new African Games record of 24.72s, followed by Mia Phiri and Caitlin Ann De Lange.

Despite the surprising turn of events, Team Ghana are still hoping to secure more medals as the total count stands at five.
