Ghana’s silver medalist in swimming at the 2023 African Games, Abeiku Jackson expressed his joy at the presence of the Aquatic Centre in Ghana as the nation hosts the prestigious event for the first time.

The Borteyman Sports Complex’s Aquatic Centre, where Jackson made history by winning Ghana’s first medal in swimming, has garnered praise for its top-notch facilities.

In an interview following his historic win in the Men’s 50 Metre Butterfly event, Jackson emphasised the significance of having such a facility for the current and future generations.

He stated, “It’s a standard Olympic pool. It’s a great pool, I’m happy to have a pool like this in Ghana not only for me but also for the kids that are upcoming for them to also practice and train day in day out, getting the advantages of equipment which will achieve greater dreams for them in the next African Games or the next Olympic Games.”

Abeiku Jackson secured a silver medal in the Men’s 50m Butterfly with an impressive time of 24.23s, closely trailing Egypt’s Ali Khalafalla (23.93). South Africa’s Hardin Eaton secured the third spot with a time of 24.42s. This achievement marks a significant improvement for Jackson, who had previously placed seventh in the same event at the 2019 African Games.

The multi-sport competition, featuring African athletes competing across various disciplines, will conclude on March 23. Not only is the event a showcase of talent, but several disciplines also serves as a qualifier for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
