Nigerian cyclist Abdul Malik Yussif finished first in the fourth edition of the 3FM Tour Du Ghana, becoming the first-ever foreigner to be crowned champion on Saturday, May 18.
He beat hot favourites Alexander Allotey and Freeman Kporha, who had won the previous editions to the crown.
The cyclists were tasked to ride from the premises of Media General Ghana in Accra to Nsawam where the flag was officially dropped for the start of the competition. Their finishing point was the tough hills of Kwahu Mpraeso, going a total distance of over 180km.
“A winner always dreams and works towards it. I feel really happy [winning the competition]. I pray every time I seek victory in something and I know that with God, all things are possible,” Yussif said after the race.
Emmanuel Sesi finished second whilst the winner of the third edition, Freeman Kporha, finished third.
In the women’s division, it was an all-Nigerian dominance at the podium with Patience Otuodung finishing first. Patricia Nnachi and Mary Sunday completed the top three.
Richard Attah maintained his title as the best paracyclist with Ayesu Bossman finishing second and Ebenezer Adjei finishing third.
