In a bid to promote youth football and make it paramount on all fronts, Kumasi-based Asante Kotoko have been slapped with a one-year ban by life patron Otumfoɔ Osei Tutu II.

The directive, which was read to the newly inaugurated board at a ceremony in Kumasi by Manhyia’s Chief of Staff, Kofi Badu, stressed the need for appropriate systems to harness the growth of youth football through the rank and file of the club.

The new move, Kofi Badu says, is to steer the club towards being self-sufficient and financially stable.

“Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has directed that Asante Kotoko should not sign any new player for the first team for a period of one year,” Kofi Badu told the press at the event.

“The club has enough players to serve them for the period in question.”

Otumfoɔ Osei Tutu II in naming the new board charged them to eschew the attitude of just buying players but rather build an academy that will serve as a provider for the first team.
