New Edubiase owner Abdul Salam Yakubu has opposed Kurt Okraku’s bid for a second term as President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

He is urging delegates to vote against Okraku in the upcoming GFA Elections scheduled for September 27.

Yakubu is a staunch supporter of George Afriyie, who previously contested against Okraku in the 2019 elections and is vying for the presidency again. Afriyie and Okraku underwent the vetting process on Monday at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, with the Elections Committee expected to announce their decisions on August 28.

Yakubu expressed his stance on Okraku’s presidency, citing concerns over the decline in the state of Ghanaian football during his tenure. He highlighted the underperformance of national teams and clubs on the African stage, pointing to several struggling clubs including Techiman City, Unity FC of Richmond, Phar Rangers, Tema Youth, and Hasaacas.

In a statement to Kumasi-based FOX FM, Yakubu remarked, “Kurt Okraku does not deserve another term. Just look at how our game has deteriorated over the years. Our national teams are not doing well and our clubs are no better in Africa.” He further questioned Okraku’s leadership, asking, “Is this how to lead the GFA?”

The outcome of the GFA Elections will determine the next President and leadership of the Ghana Football Association, with delegates set to make their choice in Tamale next month.
