Medeama displayed a commendable performance, yet it fell short as they narrowly lost 2-1 to D.C United on Saturday at the Audi Field in Washington D.C.
D.C United started the game on a strong note and it resulted in them taking the lead. Nevertheless, Medeama settled into their rhythm and managed to secure an equaliser, courtesy of Nurudeen Abdulai, who capitalised on a goalkeeper’s mistake.
The Major League Soccer club responded with another goal, ultimately sealing their victory. To Medeama’s dismay, their second goal was disallowed due to a foul on the goalkeeper.
In their first-ever match outside of Africa, the Ghanaian champions could argue they deserved at least a draw, given the great effort they put forth. Their squad faced visa issues, necessitating them to travel with only 15 players and a limited bench of just four substitutes.

The match was a part of the celebration of African culture in Washington, D.C. Before the game kicked off, the Ghanaian national anthem resonated through the stadium.

Medeama will now shift their attention back to Ghana, where they aim to defend their league title and make their mark in the CAF Champions League.
