Kwesi Appiah no longer Stars coach as GFA dissolves all technical teams

Black Stars coach James Kwesi Appiah is no longer in charge of the senior national men’s soccer team after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) dissolved all technical teams of the various national teams. The decision, which takes immediate effect, “affects both male and female national teams,” a statement from the Communications Department of the Association on Thursday said. The decision means all coaches handling all the national teams – together with their backroom staff – will have to renegotiate new deals if an opportunity is given. Head coach of Black Stars B Maxwell Konadu has since joined former side Asante Kotoko after missing the 2019 WAFU Cup. Appiah, whose backroom staff included former Black Stars players Stephen Appiah and Richard Kingson, saw out his two-year contract. It ended on Tuesday, December 31, 2019. “The GFA extends its appreciation to all coaches and members of the respective national teams for their contributions to our teams and Ghana football,” the statement said. “We wish them all the best in their various endeavours.” The country’s football-governing body is expected to soon announce a roadmap in selecting coaches for the various national teams.
