Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has emphasised the need to protect the country’s football and prevent its destruction.

Speaking at the association’s 29th Congress in Kumasi, Okraku expressed his concerns over leaked GFA documents and warned that appropriate action would be taken against those responsible. He urged all stakeholders to join forces in safeguarding the brand of Ghana football.

During his address, Okraku acknowledged the significant damage suffered by Ghana football before his tenure began in 2019. He emphasised the efforts made by himself and the Executive Council in restoring the sport’s reputation.

Okraku stated, “I’m not interested in destroying the brand, Ghana football. If I indeed you love Ghana football you should be interested in building the brand and not to be destroyed. When we took over, this brand was badly damaged.”

The Congress, currently being held at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), serves as a platform for stakeholders to discuss various matters, including the upcoming elections scheduled for October. One of the proposals up for debate is the increase in the presidential nomination fee. The GFA is seeking approval from Congress to raise the fee from 5,000 Ghana cedis to 50,000 cedis.
