Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has urged George Afriyie, who was disqualified from the GFA presidential race, to play a positive role in the development of football in the country.

Okraku made this statement after being re-elected as president for a second term during the 2023 GFA Elective Congress in Tamale. Okraku ran unopposed following Afriyie’s disqualification, who was the sole candidate expected to contest against him.

Afriyie’s disqualification was attributed to a breach of the GFA statutes and his failure to provide the required number of GFA members to support his candidature.

Okraku emphasized the importance of inclusivity in the football community, stating “The football pitch is very big, and everybody, including my brother George [Afriyie], has a role to play. I will reach out to George and bring him back home.”

He also advised, “So, George, wherever you are, we are one. My message to you is, Medeama (My brother).”

The GFA elections were initially scheduled for September 27 but were postponed to October 5 due to legal issues, including injunctions filed by King Faisal and Afriyie, who has also petitioned the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
