Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum has expressed frustration with his team’s poor performance this season, citing lack of effort from senior players as the main cause.

Ogum revealed that he has had no choice but to rely on younger, less experienced players due to the underwhelming displays by veteran members of the squad.

“Most of the senior players are not putting in much effort at training, and that’s why I start the young guys who originally are not supposed to start,” Ogum stated.

Kotoko have struggled to find form, managing only two wins out of nine matches, with three losses and four draws. Their most recent loss came against Dreams FC, which was met with discontent from fans who booed the players off the field.

Ogum acknowledged that scoring goals has been a significant issue for the team, having managed just one goal in their past three games and seven in total this season.

“Our problem is goalscoring, and that is a fact. We even play better than our opponents, and create chances, but at the end of the day, how to put the ball in the net has been the problem.”

Despite these challenges, Ogum remains hopeful that his team can turn things around in their upcoming match against Samartex. He emphasised the need for his players to step up and take responsibility for their performances.

“I believe we have the quality, but it’s time for the players to take their destiny into their own hands and prove themselves,” Ogum concluded.
