Inter Miami have terminated goalkeeper Nick Marsman’s contract, a few weeks after he raised concerns regarding the club’s readiness for Lionel Messi’s arrival.

In June, Marsman openly questioned whether Inter Miami’s infrastructure was prepared to accommodate a player of Lionel Messi’s stature.

He shared his reservations with ESPN, stating, “I personally think that this club is not ready for Messi’s arrival. We have a temporary stadium, people can just walk on the pitch, there are no gates. We also leave for the stadium without security. I think they aren’t ready. But I hope he comes.”

However, the repercussions of his comments have now materialised, leading to the termination of Marsman’s contract by Inter Miami.

Messi’s transition to Inter Miami last month has been a resounding success, with the Argentine superstar already netting seven goals in just four appearances for the club. His impressive performance, including a brace against FC Dallas in the Leagues Cup round of 16, has elevated him to the joint-fourth position in the club’s all-time highest goalscorers’ list.

Marsman, the 32-year-old Dutch goalkeeper, joined the MLS side in 2021 and made 29 appearances during his time at the club.
