Ghanaian boxer, Isaac Dogboe, has stated that he is proud to represent both the United Kingdom and Ghana.

Dogboe was born in Accra and spent his childhood in Ghana before moving to London.

He won the Amateur Boxing Association British lightweight title in 2013 while boxing out of the Territorial Army London BC.

Dogboe has only fought once in the UK since making his pro debut in August 2013. The Ghanaian won his second fight against Andy Harris at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall.

His fights have mostly taken place in the United States and Ghana.

The 27-year-old former WBO Super Bantamweight champion recently defeated American Joet Gonzalez in a split decision to become the top contender for Rey Vargas’ WBC featherweight title.

Dogboe was asked on TV3‘s New Day on Friday, August 5 about nationality and stated that he’s happy to represent both countries.

“I grew up in the UK, that’s where boxing started for me and I’m proud to represent both countries (UK and Ghana) because they work together and have a great relationship over the years.”

He also aims to put smiles on the faces of everyone as he fights for titles.

“For me and my team, the most important thing is bringing people together, putting joy and smiles on people’s hearts and faces. That’s the ultimate goal.”

Dogboe was greeted warmly upon his return to Ghana this week after defeating Gonzalez.
