‘Ghanaian coaches don’t learn’ – Charles Taylor slams Ibrahim Tanko

Former Ghana international Charles Taylor has descended heavily on Black Meteors coach Ibrahim Tanko following his team’s dismal showing against Morocco in the ongoing U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana succumbed to a 5-1 loss against the hosts on Tuesday putting them in a difficult situation to proceed to the semifinals of the competition.

The team however have a lifeline as they face Guinea in their final group match in a must-win encounter on Friday.

Reacting to the team’s performance, Charles Taylor stated that, Ibrahim Tanko was among the many Ghanaian coaches who only seek eligibility by acquiring certificates rather than learning.

According to him, the coach’s choice of line-up showed his level of incompetence.

“Ghanaian coaches just go after the certificates without learning anything. If you look at the kind of defence Ibrahim Tanko set up for the game, it clearly tells you they don’t learn.

“If you’re a good coach you would be able to build a formidable team within three weeks regardless of the unavailability of some of the players,” he told Angel TV.

“The No. 7 shirted for instance was just terrible. Nothing showed that he was a professional player,” he added.

Ghana are still bent on making it beyond the group phase and eventually finishing in the top three in order to earn qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games to be held in Paris, France.
