George Afriyie picks nomination forms ahead of GFA presidential election

Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) George Afriyie has reaffirmed his intention to contest the GFA presidency after picking nomination forms for the upcoming elections.

In accordance with a roadmap announced by the Election Committee last week the nominations for presidential hopefuls and of Executive Council members opened on Monday, August 7.

According to the spokesperson of George Afriyie, Ayereko Frimpong, the experienced football administrator has commenced the process with the aim of unseating the current president Kurt Okraku by picking up his nomination form and is expected to submit it alongside all required documents.

“George Afriyie who about a month and a half ago stated publicly that he would fight to save Ghana football to a place that was better before and now has been destroyed by Kurt Okraku has picked forms to contest in accordance to the roadmap released by the Election Committee of the Ghana Football Association,” he told Peace FM

“He [George Afrriyie] has begun with filling all the requirements, paperwork, documentation, endorsement, and other necessary particulars, and when we get everything he will return to the Ghana FA to submit all the documents for the elections,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kurt Okraku has received the backing of ten Regional Football Association (RFA) chairmen who picked forms on his behalf as he seeks re-election. The first term of the former MTN FA Cup chairman’s tenure ends in October having assumed office four years ago.
