We’ll play our CAF matches in Kumasi – Gold Stars CEO declares

Chief Executive Officer of Bibiani Gold Stars, Kwesi Adu, has assured fans that plans are far advanced to ensure the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi is ready to host the club’s upcoming CAF Interclub preliminary round matches.

Speaking on Akoma 87.9 FM, Mr. Adu confirmed that currently, the Accra Sports Stadium is the only CAF-approved venue in Ghana for continental competitions. However, he revealed that steps are being taken to ensure that the Baba Yara Stadium is also made ready in time.

“Currently, the Accra Sports Stadium is the only venue CAF has approved for its competitions,” he said. “But with just a few upgrades, the Baba Yara Stadium can also meet the requirements to host both Gold Stars and Asante Kotoko for the preliminary rounds.”

Mr. Adu noted that he, together with Nana Apinkra, recently met with the Ghana Football Association’s Club Licensing Manager to assess the stadium and discuss what needs to be done.

“I’m very confident that with the support of the National Sports Authority, led by Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, and in collaboration with Kotoko and Gold Stars, the necessary works will be completed. We are determined to play our preliminary games in Kumasi,” he stated.

Although the stadium has not yet received final approval from CAF, Mr. Adu remains hopeful that the ongoing minor works will be enough to secure the green light before the start of the competition.

“If Baba Yara is not ready by the time of the group stages, we will consider the Accra Sports Stadium. But for now, our focus is on completing the required works in Kumasi so we can host the preliminary round there,” he concluded.

Bibiani Gold Stars will be making their debut in continental competition following a historic season in the Ghana Premier League, and their desire to represent Ghana from a home base in Kumasi reflects their growing ambitions on the African stage.
