We are getting used to Colombia weather – Black Princesses captain

Stella Nyamekye

Black Princesses captain Stella Nyamekye has revealed how the Black Princesses have adjusted to the challenging weather conditions in Bogota.

According to the midfielder, although the weather conditions have been different, it has not interfered with the team’s ability to train effectively.

The Black Princesses of Ghana have camped in Colombia ahead of their seventh consecutive U20 World Cup appearance, training and looking forward to playing their first game.

However they’ve had to deal with diverse weather conditions, but Stella Nyamekye, captain of the team, has revealed how the team has adjusted quickly to their new surroundings.

“The weather conditions here are entirely different from Ghana’s, which make playing here a bit difficult but because of the frequent training under these conditions, we’ve become used to it”

“We’ve also improved a lot as compared to how we were in Ghana and we’re waiting for the next friendly hoping to win,” She said.

Past performances have not been impressive as the Princesses have failed to make it out of the group stages in the last six editions and would need to channel more energy this time.

The captain revealed how they are working to progress to the knockout stages, a feat she believes would propel women’s football in the country.

“This is our seventh time appearance and all we’re hoping for is to qualify to the knockout stages to help push football in Ghana to the next level,” she added.

The Princesses find themselves in group E alongside Austria, familiar opponents New Zealand and favourites Japan and would face a tougher challenge if they are to qualify from the group stage.
