US and Mexico withdraw joint bid for 2027 Women’s World Cup

The United States and Mexico have pulled out of their joint bid to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup and will now shift their focus towards bidding for the tournament in 2031.

This decision was made just a few weeks before the host selection was set to take place at the Fifa congress in Bangkok on 17th May.

With the withdrawal of the US-Mexico bid, there are now only two remaining bids – one from Brazil and another joint bid from Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

In a statement released by the US Soccer and Mexican Football Federations, they stated that their 2031 bid would aim for equal investment in the women’s game as compared to the men’s tournament, which would be a historical first.

They plan to use the lessons learned from co-hosting the 2026 Men’s World Cup with Canada to create a successful event in 2031.

US Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone explained that hosting a World Cup tournament requires significant preparation, and having extra time to organize the event would help them maximize its impact globally.

She added that the experience gained from organizing the 2026 Men’s World Cup would enable them to deliver an exceptional tournament in 2031.
