The Black Stars jersey is incredibly heavy to wear – Razak Simpson

Nations FC defender Razak Simpson claims that donning a Black Stars jersey is incredibly heavy and entails many responsibilities.

Along with three other local players, Simpson was included in coach Otto Addo’s 25-man roster for the pivotal 2024 AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger.

The Nations FC captain played 90 minutes in each game, and Black Stars coach Otto Addo congratulated the player on his debut call-up after a superb performance from the player.

“And you’re right, he did well. I saw him at Nations. I’ve been going around Ghana to watch matches. And he’s one of the players who caught my eye. And I think he justified it in the last game and I hope he will continue.” quoted by Otto Addo.

In an interview with Akoma FM in Kumasi, Razak, after appearing in Ghana’s 1-1 tie with Angola, says wearing the national colours is not easy but rather heavy.

”It wasn’t easy to wear the Black Stars colours because many Ghanaians are scattered over the world, and there were 26 players at camp. I was one of the chosen players to start for the national team. It is a great responsibility. When I wore the shirt, it became heavy on me, but I reminded myself that this is what I chose to do, so I had to put everything else aside and play.”

Razak is back at Nations as the GPL begins in week 12, aiming to be chosen for the Black Stars in the subsequent call-ups.
