A 75-year-old woman Emelia Okai has joined the #SaveGhanaFootball movement, citing the Black Stars’ disappointing 2-2 draw with Mozambique in the AFCON 2023 as the catalyst for her participation.

The team’s failure to secure a win in the final moments of the game, resulting in their elimination from the tournament, left her feeling hurt and frustrated.

She joins several prominent Ghanaians and sports enthusiasts in calling for change in the country’s football association.

“Football is my heart, soul and everything. I have been watching football for a long time but our game against Mozambique hurt me,” Emelia Okai told reporters.

“I was watching the game when we scored two and allowed them to equalise. I couldn’t sleep that night. I decided to join the demonstration today because of that game.”

The #SaveGhanaFootball demonstration began at the Obra Spot in Accra and is headed towards the Ghana Football Association headquarters.

The protest aims to bring attention to the various issues that have contributed to the decline of Ghana football, including poor management, corruption, and lack of investment in grassroots development.
