FC Samartex left-back Isaac Afful has earned a call-up to the Black Stars squad for their upcoming doubleheader against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The 25-year-old is one of only two local-based players in the 25-man squad, alongside Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare.
Afful’s consistent performances have drawn the attention of head coach Otto Addo.
With Ghana’s ongoing issues in the left-back position due to injuries and inconsistent performances, Afful is seen as a valuable backup to returning left-back Gideon Mensah.
The defender played a significant role in Samartex’s 2023/24 Ghana Premier League triumph, featuring 25 times for the Timber Giants. His solid form also earned him a spot in Samartex’s CAF Champions League campaign this season.
Ghana will host Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday before traveling to Libya for the return fixture as they aim to secure a spot in the 2025 AFCON.
