RTU fail to honour match against Great Olympics

Real Tamale United (RTU) are in real danger of receiving a severe sanction from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after failing to show up for their Premier League match against Great Olympics on Sunday afternoon.

This incident follows a midweek scandal where RTU fielded unregistered players in their outstanding match against Dreams FC, resulting in an 8-1 loss in Dawu.

The GFA is investigating this matter, but RTU compounded their troubles by not appearing for the league match against Great Olympics in Accra.

Despite Great Olympics players and match officials showing up and warming up, RTU did not appear. Great Olympics are expected to be awarded three points, which may or may not be sufficient to save them from relegation.

RTU, who have already been relegated, await their fate. They had previously apologised for the incident involving unregistered players, stating that it was not their intention to ridicule the league.

In a statement addressing the issue, RTU admitted their error: “The action was never deliberate and was never intended to ridicule our beautiful game.”

“The club has gone through some difficult moments this year, a situation that is culminating in our exit from the Premier League.”

“The club, however, courts for mercy and sympathy from the general public and the GFA as we strive to reorganize and build a team that all of us will be proud of. We express our regret again and assure that this will never happen again. The club is sorry.”

RTU now face the possibility of further sanctions as they navigate their current challenges and aim to rebuild for the future.
