Randy Abbey backs Black Stars to secure World Cup spot

An executive council member of  Ghana Football Association (GFA) Dr. Randy Abbey, has emphasised that the association’s objective for the Black Stars is to get Ghana into the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars increase their chances for a fifth World Cup appearance after a come-from-behind victory over Mali in Bamako.

Otto Addo’s main are now aiming to continue impressively in their next game against Central African Republic (CAR).

In an interview with Akoma FM, Dr. Randy expressed his belief that the team’s confidence level going into their match against Central Africa Republic (CAR) on Monday will increase following their victory over Mali in Bamako.

“Our win over Mali clearly improves our chances and gives us a lot of confidence as we get ready to play the next game on Monday against CAR. Our goal as an FA remains the same, to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.”

Abbey also praised supporters in Kumasi for consistently cheering the team on at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, calling for an extra effort from them as the Black Stars host the Beasts.

“Fans in Kumasi have been excellent, and we expect them to surpass their previous level of excellence. On Monday, we want to see the stadium filled, and we know we’ll give them something to celebrate.”

Randy Abbey thinks that a victory on Monday will increase Ghana’s prospects of earning a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“We will eventually achieve the desired outcome, which is to win, and that will increase our chances of qualification.”

With a victory over Central Africa Republic, Ghana, who is currently ranked third in Group I, will move up to the top of the table for the first time.
