Premier League trophy tour: Ghanaians throng Labone for once in a lifetime experience

It seldom happens and may not even happen in the lifetime of some people.

A few privileged Ghanaians were fortunate to take turns and pictures with the coveted Premier League crown on Sunday during the Premier League’s trophy tour in Ghana.

The opportunity to be in close proximity to the glittering crown was made possible by the Official Partners of the Premier League, Guinness Ghana, who are touring Africa with the trophy.

Fortunately for Ghanaian Premier League lovers, Accra, Ghana, was the first stop for the trophy, which will make its way to other African countries before returning to the United Kingdom.

Thrilled by the outcome and success of the event, Marketing & Innovation Director at Guinness Ghana Brewies PLC, Stellar Muzito told 3Sports.

“As you know, this 2024/25 season, Guinness became the official partners of the Premier League, and this is a global partnership in the next four years.”

“Friday was huge because it was the first time we at Guinness brought the trophy here. The fanfare was amazing. Ghana is a very hospitable place. It’s been amazing. Today has just been the epitome of that here at PitStop,” she added.

The viewing party at PitStop, Labone, was preceded by a media briefing session upon the trophy’s arrival at the Marriot Hotel on Friday night.

A number of dignitaries were in attendance, including former Black Stars players John Mensah & John Paintsil, who enjoyed stints in the English top flight.

To the amusement of fans, representatives from Guinness revealed the trophy was the original one, putting to bed any uncertainties.

The climax of the event took place on Sunday, where fans were treated to Premier League games between London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea.

The final game saw Manchester United ease their way to a 3-0 victory over struggling Leicester City.

Both Arsenal and Manchester United claimed victories, capping off a successful Guinness Premier League tour in Ghana.
