Ouattara backed despite Hearts of Oak struggles

Former Hearts of Oak board member Frank Nelson has urged the club’s current administration to continue behind struggling coach Aboubakar Ouattara.

Ouattara, the Ivorian manager, has come under fire for the club’s uneven performances in the ongoing 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.

Hearts of Oak have not won in their past two matches and are in fifth place with 37 points, seven points behind leaders Gold Stars FC.

Despite the hurdles, Frank Nelson is certain that Ouattara can turn things around.
“I believe the coach is performing well, and we should offer him more opportunities so that he can deliver,” Nelson said in an interview with Akoma FM.

He also underlined Ouattara’s emphasis on giving young players an opportunity, despite the fact that this may not always meet the expectations of the fans.

“He is attempting to provide opportunities for young boys to play, sometimes it may not be what we supporters want, but perhaps he has a different strategy. At the end of the day, this does not mean the coach won’t accept ideas from others, including supporters.”

Nelson maintained optimism over the team’s recuperation, saying “I believe Accra Hearts of Oak will recover, and I am confident we will do something. I believe that the players must encourage themselves at times, as this is their career, and being signed will benefit them.”

Hearts of Oak will try to rebound when they play Nations FC in a postponed Matchday 21 fixture at the Tuba Astroturf on Thursday, with kickoff at 15:00 GMT.
