Otto Addo is reportedly the front-runner for the vacant Ghana coaching job, which would mark his second stint with the national team.

However, some Ghanaian football legends have expressed scepticism about his ability to turn around the team’s fortunes.

Abdul Karim Razak, winner of the African Footballer of the Year award in 1978, is among those who doubt Addo’s credentials.

In an interview with Akoma FM, Razak questioned the decision to consider Addo for the role, citing his lack of experience and track record.

He said, “The GFA is treating the Black Stars coaching job like a dump. Why consider Otto Addo as a coach when he has no experience and can’t do the job?”

Addo previously led Ghana through World Cup qualifying and the 2022 World Cup, but the team suffered a first-round exit.

He currently serves as a member of Borussia Dortmund’s coaching staff, and reports indicate that former Ghanaian stars like Michael Essien may join his technical team if he is appointed.

The final decision on the coaching appointment rests with the GFA Executive Council, pending the completion of the search committee’s vetting process and the submission of their shortlist.

Opinions are divided on whether Addo can revitalize Ghana’s struggling team. While his familiarity with the setup offers continuity, concerns persist regarding his limited coaching background. Some Ghanaian greats believe that fresh blood is needed to inject new life into the team.

Despite these misgivings, others argue that Addo’s experience working with top European clubs and national teams makes him an attractive candidate.

His ability to communicate effectively with players and inspire them to perform at their best could be crucial in turning around Ghana’s fortunes.

Ultimately, the decision lies with the GFA Executive Council, who must carefully weigh the pros and cons of appointing Addo before making their final choice.
