Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu is preparing for a tough fixture as AS Monaco host Barcelona on Thursday night in the new look UEFA Champions League.
However, his debut in the prestigious competition won’t be an easy task at Stade Louis II as the high-flying Spanish giants hope to translate their La Liga form to the prestigious competition.
Following a season marred by injuries, Salisu is now fully fit and determined to make a statement in the Champions League.
Since regaining full fitness, the 25-year-old has been instrumental in Monaco’s Champions League qualification and continues to anchor the team’s defence this season.
With Barcelona looming, Salisu has declared his readiness to deliver in a make-or-break season for both himself and Monaco
“Yeah, I think this will be my debut in the Champions League and it’s an important game for the team and for me as well so we need to focus on the game,” he told flashscore.
Monaco’s preseason win over Barcelona in the Gamper Trophy has given Salisu reason to be optimistic, despite recognising the daunting task ahead.
“Yeah it wasn’t an easy game but we won and you know how they play and you know how they have good players up front, dangerous so we just need to go with everything we have like we played last time,” he reflected on the dominant 3-0 win over the Catalan club earlier this year.
Mohammed Salisu and Monaco will be aiming to recreate that magic and halt Hansi Flick’s side’s five-game winning streak.
The clash will kick off at 19:00GMT.
