Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure as Chelsea manager has ended after only one season, with both parties agreeing to part ways.

The 52-year-old Argentine joined the London club last summer, signing a two-year deal with an additional year option.

Despite leading the team to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League and reaching the semifinals of the FA Cup and runner-up position in the Carabao Cup, Pochettino faced criticism during the first half of the season.

He becomes the third managerial departure since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital acquired the club in May 2022.

In a statement, Pochettino thanked the owners and sporting directors for giving him the chance to manage Chelsea while expressing optimism about the club’s prospects.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, praised Pochettino for his contributions and wished him success in his next venture.

“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season,” sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said.

“He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career.”
