Ghana football legend, Asamoah Gyan, is rallying other sporting greats in the country to join forces and contribute towards the revival of various sporting disciplines.

He is urging collaboration for the revival of football, athletics, and boxing among others which have experienced a perceived decline in recent times.

In a post on social media, Gyan emphasised the need for sports legends to leverage their influence, networks, and resources to attract investors and make a meaningful impact on the youth involved in sports.

He expressed his belief that engaging and grooming the youth through different sporting avenues could lead to increased focus, enhanced enjoyment of sports, and the eventual resurgence of national pride.

Gyan stated, “I strongly believe that engaging our youth and grooming them through these avenues can get them to be more focused, make sports more fun and attractive and eventually bring us together once again just as it used to be in the past. I have started this journey and I humbly invite all my colleagues to join in this cause in reclaiming our football days.”

The decline in Ghana’s boxing fortunes is highlighted, with the country’s failure to secure a world title in recent years. The last victory came in 2019 when Richard Commey became the IBF Lightweight champion. He lost the title shortly after. Football has also faced setbacks, with various national teams struggling to make an impact on the international stage.

Gyan has already ventured into boxing with his Baby Jet promotions reflecting his commitment to contributing beyond his football career.

Having retired from professional football, Asamoah Gyan is determined to collaborate with other experienced personalities to revitalise sports in Ghana and restore the nation’s past successes.
