Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe is set to miss several matches after suffering a thigh injury during the team’s 3-2 victory over Deportivo Alaves.
The French forward, who joined the Spanish giants this summer after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired, was substituted in the 80th minute as a precaution after scoring one of the goals.
Speaking after the match, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti provided an initial update on Mbappe’s condition, stating: “He’s fine – a little overloaded. He asked me for the change to avoid problems.” However, further tests revealed more serious concerns, as the club confirmed on Wednesday that Mbappe has sustained an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg.
“Following tests, Kylian Mbappe has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg. His progress will be monitored,” read the club’s official statement.
This injury comes as a blow to Real Madrid, with Mbappe already making a significant impact this season, scoring six goals in his first seven matches for the club. His absence is likely to affect the team’s upcoming fixtures, starting with the highly anticipated Madrid derby against Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
Real Madrid will also face Lille in the Champions League and Villarreal in La Liga before the October international break.
While no specific timeframe has been provided for Mbappe’s return, the club will be hoping for a swift recovery as they look to maintain their strong start to the season in both domestic and European competitions.
