Kwesi Appiah has an advantage- Laryea Kingston on Ghana v Sudan pairing

Former Ghana midfielder, Laryea Kingston believes Kwesi Appiah has an advantage going into the game against the Black Stars in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Ghana were drawn against Sudan, Angola and Niger in Group F of the AFCON draw on Friday. The potential matchup between Otto Addo and Kwesi Appiah was a huge topic on social media as Appiah managed the Black Stars to the 2014 World Cup and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Appiah has also had a great start with Sudan in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, topping group B with 10 points from four matches.

“Kwesi Appiah is a Ghanaian and he knows how we approach games. He knows a lot of positives about Ghanaians and our mindset so I think it is going to be very difficult for us. Kwesi Appiah will have an advantage as he knows us more than Otto will know the Sudanese players,” Kingston told 3Sports after watching the draw.

“If I am in Kwesi Appiah’s shoes now, it will be a game I will be looking forward to because there are so many things I will have to prove and show that I still have what it takes to lead this country. It is going to be one of the best games in Otto’s time at the Black Stars,” he added.

The qualifiers are expected to commence in September 2024 and end in November 2024. The top two in the group will book a place in Morocco.
