Asante Kotoko have officially confirmed the return of striker Kwame Opoku, who has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the club, pending medical and international transfer clearance.
The 27-year-old rejoined the Porcupine Warriors after a successful spell during the 2020/21 season, where he scored 6 goals and provided 3 assists in just 16 appearances.
Opoku’s performances during his initial stint with Kotoko earned him a move to USM Alger in Algeria, followed by a move to Moroccan club Olympique Khouribga.
His return is seen as a vital boost to the team’s attacking options, as Kotoko look to compete for top honours this season and beyond.
Coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum spoke highly of Opoku’s development, stating, “Kwame is a player who has grown tremendously since his first spell here. His time in Algeria and Morocco has sharpened his skills and added to his experience. He’s a proven goal scorer and creator, and I’m confident he will bring a lot of quality to our squad.”
Opoku, who will wear the number 31 jersey, expressed his excitement about returning to Kotoko: “It’s a great feeling to be back at Kotoko. This club has always felt like home to me, and I’m eager to contribute to the team’s success. The support from the fans has been incredible, even during my time away, and I’m ready to give everything on the pitch to make them proud.”
