Asante Kotoko described their fans’ behaviour during their Ghana Premier League defeat against Nations FC as detestable after the club was charged by the Ghana Football Association for misconduct.
Match officials had to be escorted to the dressing room at halftime by security as fans pelted them with objects, while late in the game, some supporters surprisingly made their way into the inner perimeter and tried to assault officials after a goal was disallowed.

This has been strongly condemned, including the club, who issued a statement, saying, “Asante Kotoko condemns the detestable conduct of some persons whose action yesterday in our Premier League matchday 23 against Nations FC at the Baba Yara Stadium went contrary to what this prestigious club stands for.”
“It must be noted that under no circumstance will Asante Kotoko condone any act that violates and undermines the sporting integrity of the game. The club would like to assure its stakeholders that it has taken the appropriate steps in working hand-in-hand with the GFA in addressing and finding a lasting solution to this matter.”
“However, we also call on the GFA to address issues such as officiating, safety, and security amongst others which tend to undermine the integrity of the game on all levels. Our call is not only for Kotoko but as a beacon of Ghana’s football heritage, there is the need to ensure the game is accorded the seriousness it deserves by all stakeholders in the quest to push our football to the expected heights.”
Kotoko have until Wednesday, March 27 to respond to the charge.
