Kompany fires back at critics after Bayern’s record-breaking win

Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany has taken a swipe at his critics after Bayern Munich became the first side to score nine goals in a single Uefa Champions League game.

The Bavarians beat Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 at the Allianz Arena in Kompany’s first Champions League game in charge, with English man Harry Kane scoring four times, Michael Olise hitting a brace, Raphael Guerreiro, Leroy Sane and Leon Goretzka scoring one apiece.

Kompany was appointed as Bayern boss in Thomas Tuchel’s stead in the summer and has been in the dugout for Bayern’s first three Bundesliga outings, scoring 11 times and winning all three games.

The win against Dinamo Zagreb took Bayern’s goal tally to 20 under Kompany, as they became the first side since Real Madrid in the European Cup in the 1990-91 season to win a game by nine goals.

Bayern’s perfect start to the Champions League campaign was the best response for Kompany to prove his mettle after a few eyebrows were raised when he was appointed as manager from Burnley.

“I’ll tell you something in a quick way just to prove a point. I was born in Brussels, my dad was a refugee who came from Congo. What are my chances of even playing in the Premier League, winning something as a player, playing for the national team? The odds were 0.000 something. Now I’m a coach,” Kompany said

“Do you just stop believing in yourself and what you can achieve because of what other people say?”. The mentality is to keep going and in the end if you fail you fail, if you succeed you succeed. but you can always become better”. Online you can always find stuff so I really don’t take it personal,” he added.

Bayern travel to England, where Kompany spent a chunk of his career with Manchester City, to take on Aston Villa on October 2.
