Kofi Adams commits to revamping Ghana’s sporting infrastructure

Kofi Adams has pledged to prioritise the maintenance of Ghana’s sporting facilities if confirmed as Minister for Sports and Recreation.

He made this commitment during his appearance before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Thursday evening.

The Buem Member of Parliament stated that his goal is to prevent the deterioration of stadiums and training centres, ensuring they remain in good condition to support athlete development.

“There are stadiums and training centres that have been left to deteriorate over time. If we are serious about producing world-class athletes, then we must make sure they have the right facilities to train and compete,” he said during the vetting.

Ghana has faced challenges in maintaining key sporting venues, with the decline of facilities across various sports. Adams highlighted the importance of enforcing a strong maintenance culture to avoid further issues, referencing the CAF suspension of the Black Stars from hosting matches due to unsuitable pitches— a decision later overturned during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

“We will not allow any facility to deteriorate to the point where we could even be banned from using it.

“With the very minimal resources we have, we will ensure that we maintain our existing facilities while also building new ones.”

Adams’ focus on infrastructure development aligns with his President John Mahama’s vision of promoting all sports disciplines, not just football, and ensuring that Ghanaian athletes have the best conditions to succeed.
