Ghana international Joseph Aidoo made a long-awaited return to the field over the weekend as Celta Vigo secured a 3-1 victory over Real Valladolid in the Spanish La Liga, ending his 11-month absence from the game.
The central defender came off the bench in the 89th minute, replacing Javi Rodriguez to record his first minutes of the season.
This marks Aidoo’s return to action after recovering from a severe anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained while playing for the Black Stars in October 2023.
The injury, which forced Aidoo off the field in the 28th minute of a friendly against Mexico, sidelined him for a lengthy 257 days. It also caused him to miss the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and the remainder of the 2023/24 season.
Having rejoined Celta Vigo for pre-season ahead of the new campaign, Aidoo had been an unused substitute in previous games before making his comeback.
Now back in action, the 28-year-old will be aiming to secure more playing time and potentially work his way back into the Black Stars squad.
The absence of Joseph Aidoo has been felt for both club and country with the Black Stars stumbling multiple times against their opponents in various matches.
