John Ansah defeats Koomson to become GHALCA Chairman

John Ansah, former Vice Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), has been elected as the new Chairman of the association.

The highly anticipated election took place on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium, drawing attention from stakeholders in Ghanaian football.

The chairmanship race was a keenly contested two-horse battle between John Ansah and renowned sports lawyer Isaac Wilberforce Koomson.

Ansah, reportedly backed by Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, emerged victorious with a landslide win. Out of a total votes of 132 he pulled 96 votes as against Koomson’s 35 votes .

His election signifies the end of the Kudjoe Fianoo-led administration.

Other election results:

  • Vice-Chairmanship: Phyllis Marku Monca secured victory for this position.
  • Premier League Representative: Fred Tinda of Gold Stars triumphed over Asante Kotoko’s Joseph Nkoo and Vision FC’s Abdul Rahman Yakubu.

Unopposed positions:
Several positions were uncontested, with the following individuals set to assume office:

  • Treasurer: Patrick Martey Boye, who will retain his position for a second term.
  • Division One League Representative: Eric Opoku.
  • Regional Clubs Representative: Gabriel Godwin Kwao.
  • Women’s Premier League Representative: ASP Naomi F. Abdulai, CEO of Prisons Ladies.

With Ansah at the helm, stakeholders anticipate a new direction and renewed energy for GHALCA’s role in Ghanaian football.
