Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini couldn’t hide his excitement following the team’s historic win over Bayer Leverkusen to clinch the UEFA Europa League title.
On Wednesday night, a remarkable hat-trick from Nigeria international Ademola Lookman ended Bayer Leverkusen’s 51-game unbeaten streak this season.
Despite the win, Gasperini is more impressed with the manner which the team clinched its first major trophy after 61 years.
Speaking to the press after a dominant performance against one of the best sides in Europe this campaign, the 66-year-old expressed his satisfaction with his team, indicating Atalanta’s dominance over opposition was one made in style.

“It’s not just that we won, it’s how we won. We’ve beaten Liverpool when they were top of PL table, Sporting and now Bayer Leverkusen… we are extremely proud,” he said.
Also, winning the Europa League title means Italy may have six teams in the UEFA Champions League next season, and Gasperini’s Atalanta will be aiming to make a strong case for themselves in Europe’s premium club competition.
