Everton midfielder Dele Alli has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the Chelsea penalty incident during their match against Everton.

During the match, Chelsea displayed dominance throughout, but the post-penalty confrontation overshadowed the result when Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson were found in an argument over who to take the kick.

However, Cole Palmer who was already on a hattrick ended up converting it in to complete his haul for Chelsea in a match which ended 6-0.

Despite being sidelined due to injury since March 2023, Alli offered his insights into the altercation that unfolded after Chelsea were awarded a penalty during the game.

He expressed disappointment with the incident, questioning why a similar level of intensity wasn’t evident during crucial moments, such as the game against Manchester United.

“I’m not there at the training ground everyday, I don’t know who the designated penalty taker is, but as far as I’m aware, in that last big game and the pressure was on, I didn’t see them all fighting to take it [vs Man Utd with the last minute penalty],” he stated on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

“It’s alright when you’re 4-0 up and want to get on the scoresheet, but if you want to get on the scoresheet, don’t just try and do it in an unpressurised situation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Cole Palmer after the game clarified that he was the designated penalty taker and had to take it despite his teammates’ eagerness to also score from the spot.
