I considered playing for Ghana but Holland believed in me- Jeremie Frimpong

Dutch-born Ghanaian defender Jeremie Frimpong has revealed that while the Ghana Football Association (GFA) approached him about representing the Black Stars, he ultimately chose to play for the Netherlands national team.

Frimpong is considered one of the most in-form wing backs in the world and helped Bayer Leverkusen to win the German Bundesliga last season.

“I considered playing for Ghana and the GFA did make contact with me, but Holland were always the first one to come and they were the country that believed in me,” Frimpong told 3 Sports during his first-ever visit to Ghana.

The 24-year-old Bayer Leverkusen wing-back, who is currently in Ghana for holidays, took time to participate in a football game in Dansoman, Accra.

Despite his Ghanaian heritage, Frimpong was born in the Netherlands and moved to England with his family at age seven.

Having previously been on Manchester City’s books, Frimpong has now established himself as an important player for the Dutch national team, earning 10 caps since choosing to represent his birth country.
