Graham Potter has been unveiled as West Ham United’s new manager, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal after the sacking of Julen Lopetegui.
The 49-year-old, whose last managerial role was at Chelsea, expressed excitement about the opportunity.
“It’s a proud day to be head coach of this amazing club. Big tradition, big history, big expectations, big challenge,” Potter said.
“It’s a bit like Christmas for the adults. I didn’t get the best sleep last night just from excitement. I’m looking forward to meeting the players and supporters and getting started.”
Potter takes over a struggling Hammers side sitting 14th in the Premier League, seven points above the relegation zone, with just six wins all season.
Despite his turbulent Chelsea spell, Potter is optimistic about the challenge and believes in building a team the fans can be proud of.
“My experience is that if you can build a team recognisable on the pitch that supporters identify with, that’s the key,” he said.
His first game in charge will be an FA Cup clash with Aston Villa on Friday, followed by a Premier League home game against Fulham.
