RB Salzburg midfielder Forson Amankwah has received a debut Black Stars call-up ahead of the friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda.

The 21-year-old is a late call-up after Elisha Owusu picked up an injury during Auxerre’s league game over the weekend against Caen, 3Sports understands.

Mohammed Diomande, an Ivorian midfielder, also named in the squad is unlikely to feature in this window as he’s unlikely to complete the naturalisation process in time.

Otto Addo had named his squad over the weekend but Amankwah is now expected to join the squad in Morocco with the midfield looking light.

Amankwah is yet to play for the Black Stars or any of the country’s youth teams but was included in Chris Hughton’s 55-man provisional squad for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The former WAFA player is a part of the young players tracked by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in the past few months so it comes as no surprise to see that he has been considered.

The GFA has sent an invitation to Salzburg and has begun processes to sort out the midfielder’s Moroccan visa.

Amankwah played in the Ghana Premier League with WAFA before moving to Europe to join Salzburg where he was loaned to Liefering and Rheindorf Altach. He returned to Salzburg this season and has featured prominently for the first team in the league and the UEFA Champions League.

He plays as an attacking midfielder as a number 10 but can also deputise as an 8. The nimbly-footed midfielder stated earlier this year that he is working hard to play in the national team and will now have his chance.
