Five debutants in Ghana’s Unity Cup roster as coach Otto announces 23-man squad

Black Stars head  coach Otto Addo has handed debut call-ups to five promising players in his 23-man squad for the upcoming Unity Cup in London.

The quintet includes Joseph Tetteh Anang, Aaron Essel, Caleb Yirenkyi, Abdul Aziz Issah, and Mohammed Gaddafi Fuseini, each impressing with notable performances at club or youth level.

Goalkeeper Anang has shone with St. Patrick’s Athletic in Northern Ireland, keeping seven clean sheets in 18 games.

Essel, a stalwart in Ghana’s U-20 AFCON campaign, started every match despite the team missing out on World Cup qualification.

Yirenkyi earned his spot with consistent form for FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark, contributing two goals and two assists in 17 league appearances.

Barcelona’s Aziz Issah joins the senior team with valuable youth experience, while striker Fuseini impressed with a winning goal in Royale Union Saint-Gilloise’s league-winning match against Gent.

Ghana opens the tournament against Nigeria on May 28, with the winner advancing to the final on May 31. Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica complete the four-team lineup.
