Ernest Nuamah nets brace as Lyon set up Manchester United Europa League date

Ghana forward Ernest Nuamah was at the double for Lyon as they booked a last eight Europa League tie against Manchester United.

Lyon were on the front foot from the onset and were rewarded with a Georges Mikautadze finish after 14 minutes.

Mikautadze then turned provider eight minutes before the break for Nuamah, who tucked home from close range.

The Mikautadze and Nuamah show continued after the break.

Two minutes into the second half, Mikautadze applied a neat finish to Rayan Cherki’s ball to extend the hosts advantage to three on the night.

Lyon were effortlessly cruising past an out-of-sort FCSB.

The finishing touch and the result was put beyond doubt when Ernest Nuamah bagged his second goal two minutes before the final whistle.

Nuamah’s goal capped off a fine team and individual performance, which sets Lyon on course for a last eight tie against Manchester United.

The Red Devils, just like Lyon, were also in imperious form at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

Whereas neither of Nuamah or Mikautadze were able to walk home with the match ball, United’s skipper, Bruno Fernandes, bagged a hat-trick en route to the Red Devils’ 4-1 demolishing of Real Sociedad.

Meanwhile, Nuamah’s goal took his Europa League tally to three for the season.

The 21-year-old has now scored in successive games for the first time this season following his outstanding goal at the weekend.

The first leg of Lyon’s tie with United is set to be played in France on April 10, with Nuamah’s form good omen for Ghana, who are set to take on the World Cup qualifiers.
