Chaos and controversy mar Morocco’s Olympic victory over Argentina

The opening match of the Olympic football tournament was marred by unprecedented chaos as Morocco snatched a controversial 2-1 victory over Argentina.

With Argentina seemingly on the verge of equalizing deep into injury time, the match erupted into pandemonium. A barrage of objects, including cups, bottles, and flares, rained down on the Argentine players as jubilant Moroccan fans stormed the pitch.

The referee was forced to suspend the game for nearly two hours as riot police struggled to restore order. The match eventually resumed behind closed doors, with VAR overturning Argentina’s would-be equalizer. Morocco held on to claim a dramatic win.

Soufiane Rahimi’s brace put Morocco in control, but Giuliano Simeone, son of Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, pulled one back for Argentina. However, the late drama overshadowed the on-field action.

The incident leaves a stain on the start of the Olympic football tournament and raises serious questions about crowd control.
