Black Queens gear up for WAFCON with crucial friendly against Nigeria

As the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) approaches its kickoff on July 5 in Morocco, Ghana’s Black Queens are intensifying their preparations with a high-stakes friendly match against arch-rivals Nigeria.
Scheduled for June 29, this encounter will serve as a critical test for coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren’s side ahead of the tournament.
The Black Queens have shown promising form in their previous two friendly games, securing victories over Malawi (3-1) and Benin (4-2).
With seven goals scored and three conceded, the team has demonstrated their attacking prowess, although they still need to work on their defensive solidity.
The upcoming match against Nigeria will be a true litmus test for the Black Queens. Coach Bjorkegren acknowledges the challenge, recognizing Nigeria as a formidable opponent that will push his team to their limits.
The match against Nigeria’s Super Falcons will serve as the Black Queens’ final friendly game ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco this July.
In the WAFCON group stage, Ghana is placed in Group C, alongside: Defending champions South Africa, Mali and Tanzania
The Black Queens, who last participated in the WAFCON in 2018, have yet to claim the trophy.
With a strong squad and determination, they aim to make a mark in the tournament and bring home their first WAFCON title.
