Bayern consider extending Tuchel’s contract

Bayern Munich and Thomas Tuchel agree to part ways

Thomas Tuchel,

Bayern Munich have begun exploring the possibility of retaining current manager Thomas Tuchel beyond the end of the ongoing season, despite initial plans indicating otherwise.

According to multiple German news sources such as Kicker Magazine, Bild Tabloid, and Sky TV, sports directors Max Eberl and Christoph Freund have initiated negotiations with Tuchel to rescind the earlier agreed separation set for the conclusion of the 2022-2023 campaign.

However, certain obstacles must be surmounted to achieve this goal.

One significant challenge involves addressing previous criticism directed toward Tuchel by influential Bayern figure Uli Hoeneß before the UEFA Champions League semifinals versus Real Madrid.

Additionally, assurance should be given that Tuchel isn’t merely considered as a temporary replacement until alternatives like Xabi Alonso or Jurgen Klopp become available in 2025.

Moreover, Tuchel may seek an adjusted deal reflecting an extension past 2025—his originally intended termination date.

In spite of these barriers, encouraging signs hint that Tuchel might entertain the prospect of remaining at Bayern.

Reportedly, Tuchel’s representative, Olaf Meinking, engaged in discussions with Freund and Bayern chairman Jan-Christian Dreesen within the club headquarters.

The majority of Bayern players support Tuchel’s continuation, including Germany nationals Thomas Muller and Manuel Neuer.

Furthermore, English stars Harry Kane and Eric Dier share similar sentiments. Numerous supporters echoed this viewpoint by signing an online petition urging Bayern management to retain Tuchel.

This development comes as the search for Tuchel’s successor encounters complications.

Although Bayern previously earmarked Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso as its top choice, Alonso elected to extend his Leverkusen commitment instead.

Aside from Alonso, other potential substitutes declined Bayern’s offers. These include Austria coach Ralf Rangnick, who rejected Bayern’s advances, alongside ex-Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann, who prolonged his pact with Germany.

Other names connected to the role, such as Unai Emery (remaining committed to Aston Villa), Oliver Glasner (reportedly turning down Bayern in favour of continuing work at Crystal Palace), and Julen Lopetegui, didn’t materialize either.

Speculations regarding a possible homecoming for former Bayern manager Hansi Flick and Manchester United tactician Erik Ten Hag failed to gain traction, resulting in a renewed focus on maintaining Tuchel’s services.
